Marie is CEO of La Jolla Cosmetic Surgery (LJCSC) founded in 1988, now the oldest cosmetic plastic surgery group in the United States. Under her leadership, LJCSC developed La Jolla Cosmetic Medical Spa in 2014 and sold the thriving practice to private equity in 2021. In addition to her practice management expertise, she founded INFORM&ENHANCE®, the first plastic surgery CRM system which helped practices grow 3-4x the organic market rate. She went on to earn a US Patent for RealPatientRatings®, the first 100% verified ratings and reviews platform with a practice management component. She co-authored Cosmetic Surgery for Dummies with her late husband, Merrel Olesen, MD. and is a contributing author to both editions of The Business of Plastic Surgery by Joshua Korman,MD and Heather Furnas, MD.
Dana is recognized as one of the leading experts in medical marketing and practice management. Having worked with approximately 1500 practices nationally, she has a unique understanding of the fee-for-service medical market and, over the last 30 years, has worked with medical schools, hospitals, industry suppliers, and multi-specialty private and group practices. Seminar leader, and the author of A Brand Apart and Co-author of Making the Cut, both of which were published by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
Their combined expertise in all facets of practice building has led to professional alliances, training seminars, and consulting relationships with such groups as The American Society of Plastic Surgeons, The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery; Canadian Society of Plastic Surgeons, the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons, and the Italian Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
